On Monday, The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi, who ascended the throne in 2014 was dethroned over alleged insubordination to the office of the governor and other government agencies. Firing tear gas to disperse the crowd, law enforcers escorted the ousted Emir from his palace. This is the second time Sanusi has been unseated. Earlier, he was thrown out of the Nigerian Central Bank for condemning massive corruption. It’s claimed he lost his throne as Emir in similar circumstances.
With Sanusi deposed, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, takes over as the 15th Emir of Kano in the ruling Fulani dynasty. Aminu Ado Bayero is the son of the 13th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Dr. Ado Abdullahi Bayero, who ruled from 1963 until he passed away in 2014. Prior to his ascension as Emir of Kano, Aminu as the Emir of Bichi after four additional emirates were created by the state. Before that, he was Sarkin Dawakin Sakarin Gida Kano then he elevated to Wamban Kano. Other positions held by Alhaji Aminu include Dan Buran Kano and Turakin Kano. He also served as the district head of Nasarawa and Dan Maje Kano in 1990.
